Livingston residents can download audiobooks through
the Livingston Public Library's participation
in the BCCLS consortium.
In addition, the libary purchased several MP3 players
for the public to borrow, thanks to a grant from the Karma Foundation
of New Jersey. Anyone holding a valid Livingston library card and
over 18 years old may borrow the player for three weeks. The players
will be available on a first come, first served basis. Borrowers
must provide their own headphones.
Downloadable audiobooks have been growing in popularity
since they were introduced to BCCLS customers in 2006. The
format easily allows customers to download a recording of a book
and replay it on a computer or MP3 player. The process is simple
and can be done from anywhere, any time of day or night. The system
does require that you have a PC that runs Windows 2000 or XP and
has Windows Media Player 9 or 10.
How it works:
1. Log in to the BCCLS website and follow the links
for downloadable audiobooks. The website has easy to understand
instructions on the downloading process, a demonstration, information
on computer specifications, and which MP3 players are best suited
for audiobooks.
2. Titles are available from Overdrive through
the Highlands Regional Library Cooperative. Log on to http://listennjnw.lib.overdrive.com,
or follow the link from the BCCLS homepage. Overdrive titles are
available for 14 days.
3. Download the title you want to your computer
or MP3 player.
4. Staff members are available to assist you! For
more information, call the library at 973 992-4600.
