A New Chapter for Livingston
Message from Library Director
Barbara Jean Sikora
Welcome to your expanded and renovated Livingston Public
Library!
For many years, your library has been one of the busiest in the state,
and the library building now offers a state of the art, beautiful setting
in which to house extraordinary library service. Special features of
the library building include:
60,000 sq. ft. of space, approximately doubling the size of the original
library;
All public services on one level;
New lobby and fully accessible entranceway into the library;
Quiet reading and study space, with comfortable seating, throughout
the library;
A newly constructed reading room with views of the Oval;
A 200-seat Program Room that divides into five areas;
40 computer stations for the public;
Wireless access;
An outdoor adult reading terrace;
A protected exterior children's terrace for reading and programs;
An Internet cafe;
A building in harmony with the environment, providing natural light
and views of the preserved green area.
The history of the Livingston Public Library has
been one of growth. Founded in 1911 by a group of local women calling
themselves the Alpha Club, the library has progressed steadily in size
and in the astounding array of services that it offers. In this latest
phase of your library's growth, planning studies included interviews
with the Livingston public so that citizens were able to make their
needs and wishes known. Whatever your library needs or wishes - books,
information, computer services, programs, a quiet place to study alone
or in a small group - this is your library and it has been planned
for you. We hope that you will visit often, and that you will continue
to share your thoughts and ideas.
